2025 BMW Z4 M40i: A Classic Roadster and More
March 25 2025 - Gary Mollohan

The 2025 BMW Z4 M40i is a high-performance roadster that combines luxury and sportiness. It features a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with 382 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, and an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. The car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds and offers a sleek, convertible design with a power-operated soft top.

The optional Handschalter Package (German for "hand shift") introduces a 6-speed manual transmission for the first time in the Z4 M40i. This package also includes unique suspension tuning, staggered 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, a retuned rear differential, and exclusive interior and exterior design elements. It enhances the driving experience for enthusiasts who prefer a more hands-on approach.

For 2025, the Z4 sees several improvements:

  • The introduction of the Handschalter Package, making the manual transmission available.
  • Updated suspension and steering calibrations for a more engaging drive.
  • New paint colors and interior options, including vibrant hues like Thundernight Violet Metallic.
  • Enhanced soft-top functionality, allowing it to open or close in approximately 10 seconds at speeds up to 30 mph.

This beautiful example in classic Alpine White arrives with the aforementioned Handschalter Package, Driving Assistance Package, Premium Package, Shadowline Package, Harman Kardon Surround Sound, and more for a modern yet classic top-down driving experience. See specifications.

Car and Driver awarded the 2025 Z4 an excellent 9/10. "While it's not as focused on all-out performance as the sportiest sports cars, the Z4 is a two-door soft-top with plenty of luxury and lots of daily-driver appeal," wrote the editors.
